Sunnyvale Community Services

SCS VolunteersSunnyvale Community Services (SCS) is an independent, nonprofit emergency assistance agency in the heart of Silicon Valley. SCS’s mission is to prevent homelessness and hunger for low-income families and seniors facing temporary crises. SCS is designated as one of seven Emergency Assistance Network (EAN) agencies who together are the safety net for all zip codes in Santa Clara County.

There are many ways to get involved:

  • Monthly family shopping trips to purchase items specifically for an SCS donation.
  • Establish a relationship with a local retailer to pick up damaged food, cleaning products, toilet paper, or other staple household items on a regular basis.
  • Collect hotel/motel toiletries while traveling or on vacation. SCS distributes hygiene kits that include toothpaste, shampoo, soaps, lotions, and disposable razors to low-income and homeless clients.
  • Buy new books for low-income children. Feel free to wrap them and include a personal note (first names only).
  • Buy new socks and/or gloves for the homeless. Feel free to wrap them and include a personal note (first names only).
  • The Sunnyvale Community Services Auxiliary raises funds for the agency by creating handicrafts, knitting, crocheting, and lots of quilting.
  • Short-term volunteer projects for those who have construction, handyman (or handywoman), landscaping, auto repair or related skills.
  • Volunteer at the Holiday center and move food and supplies, sort food and toys, stock shelves, escort clients, accept and pick up donations, and staff the reception area.

To volunteer contact directly or look for group service opportunities in the Sunday bulletin.
