Leadership Recommendations

The Nominating Committee requests your help in identifying future leaders for our church. We are seeking individuals who are willing to work hard and have a great time together as they follow God’s call and seek God’s guidance for our church. The description for each position is given below.

  • Elders provide leadership with spiritual discernment and compassion to strengthen and nurture the faith of the congregation. As members of session, the elders together with the pastors make decisions regarding the church as a whole. The elders head up the various ministry areas of our church. These ministry areas include Children, Youth, Caring, Discipleship, Worship, Welcome & Hospitality, Ministry Resources, Mission & Service, Nominating Committee, and Personnel. To learn about the wonderful work of each ministry, read the latest available Annual Report. The elders attend monthly ministry area and session meetings during their three year term.
  • Deacons provide service of compassion and care for all members of the church. The two ministry areas are home and parish deacons. Home deacons extend Christ’s love through visits to those members who are unable to attend church. Parish deacons include those who serve new members, college students, and young adults. New member deacons facilitate new member classes and help new members find ways to connect and deepen their relationship with our church community. College deacons stay connected with students from our church. Young adult deacons organize activities and provide support for young adults. The deacons attend monthly meetings during their three-year term.
  • Nominating Committee includes two members from the congregation who serve a one-year term. They help the committee prayerfully discern who God is calling to serve as officers of the church. The other members on the committee are an elder, a deacon, and an elder not currently serving on session.

Please prayerfully reflect on people you know who might fit these positions well. Submit recommendations or volunteer yourself by completing the SVPC Leadership Recommendation Form (available at the button below through May 30).
