In the midst of all the clamor of the season, Christmas comes softly upon our hearts. Like the glow of a single candle filling a darkened room, like a long-awaited letter that ends in good news, like the quiet tread of Magi step as they make their way to Bethlehem's manger - so God's gift breaks upon us with staggering simplicity and quiet joy. We pause now again to listen with our hearts for the sound of one star shining bright, for the gasp of shepherds' surprise, for the holy rustle of angel wings. We do more than look back and remember in tonight's service: God seeks to come again into this place and our hearts - softly yet surely.
