Ministry to Families of Youth

Youth & Their Families Focus

The focus of the Youth & Their Families Ministry Area is to provide an environment and opportunities in which junior high (grades 7 - 8) and senior high (grades 9 - 12) students and their families are able to experience what it means to have a relationship with Christ, to equip them to be able to articulate that faith, and to empower them to live a life of service within the context of their community.

Goal

The goal of Youth & Their Families Ministry Area is to provide a variety of opportunities for students and their families to have transforming experiences with God and to encourage them to continue to grow spiritually in their relationship with God.

Worship

Worship is at the heart of our church’s ministry. Every Sunday we gather to praise the God we know in Jesus Christ, to listen for God’s word to us, and to be renewed in our commitment to live our lives faithfully. Our Sunday worship schedule is:

  • Early Light Contemplative service at 7:50 a.m.
  • Traditional service at 10 a.m.
  • Intersections Contemporary service at 5 p.m.

Weekly Youth Gatherings

Throughout the week Jr. High and Sr. High youth groups meet to grow with God, grow with each other and have fun!

  • Sunday Gatherings

FLASH AM (Jr. High 7th and 8th grade) meets Sunday from 10-11 a.m. (during the Traditional service) in the gym. First Sunday of the month students worship in the Sanctuary.

  • Monday and Tuesday Gatherings

Small groups are an opportunity for students to dive into the Bible, practice what it means to be in true community, and learn how to talk about their faith (in a safe environment). Small groups are separated by age and gender. See the calendar for more information.

  • Wednesday Gatherings

These gatherings in the Phoenix Center are an opportunity for students to come together as a community, experience Christian fellowship, learn about topical issues that apply to them, worship as a collective and have fun!

    • FLASH (Jr. High 7th and 8th grade) and CLUE (Sr. High 9th-12th grade) meets Wednesdays 7-8:30 p.m. The groups meet together for worship then split into age groups after. Students are welcome to arrive from 6 p.m. for hangout time before.

When does my SIXTH grader join JUNIOR High Ministries?

Sixth grade is a year of transition. You are no longer in elementary school. You have more than one teacher, more homework, a bigger school campus, and your body seems to be rebelling against you.

At Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church, it is our goal to be supportive of students during this difficult transition year. Children's Ministry and Youth Ministry have chosen to support sixth graders by giving them the best of both worlds.

Sixth graders get to start the school year by participating in the Children's Ministry mid-week program, LOGOS, on Wednesdays, and on Sundays by participating in BLAST/iBLAST.

After sixth graders have graduated from LOGOS in March, Jr. High Ministries welcomes them into SVPC Youth Ministry. Sixth graders join Flash on Wednesdays, Flash AM on Sunday Mornings and all other Jr. High events.

All Church Camp

Every Labor Day weekend members and friends of Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church gather for a three-day retreat in the Santa Cruz mountains. With a program led by a speaker, activities for children and youth and adults of all ages, and free time to relax, this is a weekend that you don’t want to miss!
