Opportunities to Serve the Hungry & Homeless in our Community

As a community we are called to move beyond the boundaries of our church walls to “Reach out in Love.”  Through the years Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church has forged relationships with many organizations in our community to help serve those in need.  The Way of Service program helps to connect people with these organizations through service opportunities.  The Way of Service program schedules regular group events to work with these organizations as well as connecting individuals with service opportunities in the community.  Events include grocery bagging of donated food; sorting and bagging rice and beans; and leaning and painting days at the Salvation Army and various food kitchens and family nights at shelters.  Everyone is welcome and we are always looking for new ideas, organizations to work with, and people to lead and organize events.

Rice & Bean Bagging

Several times a year the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church community packages rice and beans to add to grocery bags given out by Sunnyvale Community Services (SCS). Friends and members of the church community are encouraged to participate by signing up for one-hour shifts. Together, in assembly-line style, a ton of rice and beans is repackaged for SCS to insert into the monthly groceries they give to their 1,200 clients. This is an activity that anyone from small children through older people can do with ease. It is fun and very helpful to Sunnyvale Community Services.

Next opportunity: will be posted when the date is known.

More information on scheduled events can be found on the Way of Service website.
