One Great Hour of Sharing & Beyond

Sharing Brings Joy. To Others, to God and to Us.

Three people digging in the mud.Since 1949, Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) to share God’s love with people experiencing need. Recognizing that the hope we have in Christ is lived out in our hope for one another, we respond with gifts that help our sisters and brothers around the world find the hope for a brighter future.

Every year the Sunnyvale Presbyterian Church community has helped answer the prayers of many people around the world. We have helped provide assistance to those impacted by earthquakes in Haiti, Chile and Japan, food and shelter to victims of hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico and floods in Pakistan. We have helped to rescue refugees in Darfur. We have helped the citizens of central Detroit grow and produce food for the local community in vacant lot gardens which provides a base for long term sustainability and community redevelopment. We have helped Bay Area residents develop the tools to thrive in our community.

Our year of special donations begins on Palm Sunday when we observe One Great Hour of Sharing.

As Presbyterians, we emphasize other important opportunities for giving:

In October the Peacemaking Offering goes to peacemaking ministries, the Presbytery and Synod peacemaking, and the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program. Each year our Church’s Christmas Eve Offering goes to local, national, and world organizations designated by the Mission and Service ministries. Over the years Sunnyvale Presbyterian members have given tens of thousands of dollars unconditionally to all these special offerings. We thank God for the opportunity to share.
